Under strict rules and limited time and resources, teams of high school students are challenged to build industrial-size robots to play a difficult field game in alliance with other teams, while also fundraising to meet their goals, designing a team “brand,” and advancing respect and appreciation for STEM within the local community.
In our “Challenges from Previous Years” section, we take a deep dive into the hurdles and obstacles that have marked our journey through the years. These challenges aren’t just roadblocks; they are stepping stones that have pushed us to innovate, adapt, and grow. From mechanical conundrums to complex coding dilemmas, we share our experiences, solutions, and the valuable lessons learned along the way. Join us as we reflect on our past challenges, reminding ourselves that every difficulty we’ve faced has propelled us toward becoming the strong, resilient team we are today.
Whether you’re eager to become a team member or explore sponsorship opportunities, the Robovikes are excited to welcome you to our passionate community of innovators and problem-solvers.
Every year, we embark on the exciting journey of constructing a brand-new robot for our competitions. To make the most of our limited funding, we carefully disassemble and salvage numerous components from the previous year’s robot. This sustainable approach allows us to retain each year’s robot for demonstrations in the following year while we tirelessly work on crafting our latest creation. Furthermore, we maintain a stockpile of spare parts to ensure we’re well-prepared in the event of occasional breakdowns, a common occurrence in the heat of competition. Lastly, as technology continues to advance, we continually adapt by integrating new types of components to keep our robots on the cutting edge.
